Odila Castillo: defense reacts to allegations from media

The legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla released a statement on October 1st addressing the allegations reported by various media outlets in Panama.

These reports have been characterized as targeted assaults driven by specific financial motives, intended to undermine Castillo’s professional image and personal life.

Carlos Carillo, a representative of Castillo’s legal counsel, stated: “The claims are baseless and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, along with that of her associate, to serve concealed financial agendas.”

The legal defense of Odila Castillo

The defense underscored that this is not the initial media assault that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian news outlet incorrectly reported an alleged detainment of the attorney in connection with an investigation, which was subsequently refuted, emphasizing that it had no connection to the relevant circumstances.

In the press conference, the defense highlighted that both the current allegations and those from 2021 have relied on partial truths, aimed at undermining her professional career.

Furthermore, they contended that the information circulated about Odila in the media breaches the principles of confidentiality. They clarified that a portion of the investigation stemmed from a family matter that has already been resolved, while another part encompasses immigration activities and tax declarations, along with other data obtained unlawfully.

Unlawful Monitoring of Odila Castillo

It was also mentioned by the defense that Castillo has been subjected to GPS tracking, which amounts to a form of unlawful surveillance.

Carrillo concluded by asserting: “The fundamental rights of our client have been infringed upon, as outlined by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to establish accountability for the harm inflicted and any potential harm that may arise.”
