Synopsis

As a follow up to Cape Farewell’s critically acclaimed documentary for the BBC, Art from the Arctic Cape Farewell and Cactus 3 present Burning Ice, a feature film documenting the journey of a group of artists on an Arctic expedition to experience first hand the tipping points of climate change.


Climate change is a reality which is caused by us all and is a cultural, economic and social problem which has to move beyond scientific debate. Cape Farewell is an artist-led project which pioneers the response to climate change. In 2008 Chicago based director Peter Gilbert ('Hoop Dreams', 'At the Death House Door') embarked on a Cape Farewell expedition to Disko Bay in Greenland along with a 45 strong crew of artists and scientists including: Laurie Anderson, KT Tunstall, Jarvis Cocker, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robyn Hitchcock, Leslie Feist, Martha Wainwright, Shlomo, Marcus Brigstocke. Burning Ice charts the journey of this extraordinary group of artists and scientists as they tackle a collective response to climate change.
